Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Challenger (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a challenge-tracking app that helps people build habits together. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

2. Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account you provide a display name and, depending on your sign-in method, an email address or phone number. You may also sign in with Apple or Google, in which case we receive basic profile information from those providers.

Health & Fitness data

With your explicit permission, Challenger reads data from Apple HealthKit (steps, distance, meditation minutes, workout minutes, active calories) to automatically track challenge progress. We also write meditation session data back to HealthKit when you use the in-app meditation timer. Health data is never used for advertising, sold to third parties, or stored in iCloud.

User-generated content

You may create challenges, post updates with text and photos or videos, and leave comments and likes. This content is visible to other participants in the same challenge.

Device & usage data

We store your push notification token (to send notifications), device timezone (for day-boundary calculations), and your in-app preferences (theme, notification settings, app-blocking preferences).

Analytics data

We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage analytics, including screen views, tap events, device type, operating system version, and app version. We use this data solely to understand how the app is used and to improve the experience. PostHog may process your IP address for geolocation (country/region level) but we do not store raw IP addresses. You can request deletion of your analytics data by contacting us.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect advertising identifiers, precise location data, browsing history, or financial information. We do not track you across apps or websites.

4. How We Use Your Information

• Provide, operate, and improve the app through usage analytics
• Auto-track challenge progress via HealthKit
• Send push notifications you have opted into
• Display your profile and posts to other challenge participants
• Enforce our Terms of Service and investigate reports

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate Challenger. Each has its own privacy policy:

• Clerk — authentication and account management
• Convex — backend database and real-time sync
• Expo / EAS — over-the-air updates and push notifications
• PostHog — product analytics

We do not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen in the app. Deleting your account permanently removes all your data from our servers, including your profile, challenges, posts, comments, likes, and uploaded media. This action is irreversible.

7. Children’s Privacy

Challenger is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by updating the effective date above.
